If your tenants have received a higher than expected bill, there may be a few common reasons:

  • Seasonal changes - water use tends to be higher in warmer months. If their water use has increased, compare it to a previous bill from a similar time of year.
  • Irrigation - irrigation systems are the biggest water guzzler in a home. Ask your tenants to test their irritation system for leaks on their allocated watering days before 9am or after 6pm.
  • Household leaks  - use our handy tool to check for leaks.
  • New appliances, fittings or landscaping - water use can increase if new appliances or fittings have been installed, such as a dishwasher, washing machine, evaporative air-conditioner, reticulation, shower heads and taps
  • Extra people in the house - visitors, guests and additional residents can all increase the amount of water used.

We have some advice for tenants to help them save water. If your tenants need help keeping their water bills low, please refer them to reduce your water use when renting.
