- Family: MALVACEAE
- Genus: Alyogyne
- Species: heugelii
A fast growing and dense rounded native shrub that grows to about 2-3 metres high and 2m wide. The needle-like dark green foliage provides the ideal backdrop for its blue-purple tulip looking flowers, which bloom in spring and early summer. Can be pruned to shape and used in many situations, such as an informal hedge or within a native garden.
Cultivars include 'Karana' (blue-mauve flowers), Misty (soft lilac flowers), 'West Coast Gem' (deeper blue-lilac flowers), a white flowered form and 'Delightfully Double', a double flowered form.
Pronunciation: Aly-oh-gine-ee
