Waterwise gardening
This course covers:
- Understanding water use in a commercial landscape and garden
- The key ingredients of a water efficient landscape
- Basic understanding of irrigation systems and its components
- How to assess and improve the water efficiency of an irrigation system
- How to maintain a water efficient landscape and irrigation system
Who is this course for?
This course is designed to educate staff responsible for the day-to-day management of commercial landscapes, gardens, and irrigation systems including:
- Local government grounds, parks and maintenance staff
- Sustainability officers
- Environment officers
- Facility or operations managers for shopping centres, buildings and aquatic centres
- Gardeners or grounds keepers
- Waterwise Garden Centres and Nurseries
Expected completion time: 40 minutes
Successful completion of this course is one of the requirements for participation in the Waterwise Council Program and the Waterwise Garden Centre and Nurseries Program. We also strongly encourage businesses and facilities who are part of our waterwise programs to do this training as part of their professional development.
Water auditing
This course covers:
- What is water efficiency
- Identifying water efficiency opportunities
- Understanding water use
- How to conduct a site-based water audit
- Detecting leaks
- Water management strategies
Upon completing this course participants will have sufficient water auditing skills to analyse and report on site-based water use.

Cooling tower water efficiency
Cooling towers are important components of cooling systems in commercial facilities. They often consume large amounts of water, but there are ways you can reduce your water use through improved water efficiency.
This course covers:
- General understanding of cooling tower components that influence water consumption.
- Steps to minimise water use in a cooling tower, including controlled and uncontrolled losses.
- Roles and responsibilities of facility managers and water treatment providers in managing water consumption in a system.
- Minimising water consumption through improved design and use of alternative water sources.
- Associated risks and legislative requirements that influence water consumption in a system.
