Our water in Aboriginal culture lesson plans provide an opportunity for all students to deepen their knowledge of Australia by engaging with the world’s oldest continuous living culture. Through the West Australian curriculum, students will understand that contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are strong, resilient, rich and diverse. Below you can find a range of lesson plans appropriate for Kindergarten to Year 10.

Consider the importance water source knowledge and describe WA locations with water-based Aboriginal names.

Gnamma holes
Examine an informative text about gnamma holes (rock water holes) and their importance to Aboriginal people.
Year 7 - 10
Walk with the Waugal
Use one or more of the Walk with the Waugal videos and the corresponding lesson plans to build a lesson and develop your students’ understanding of one of the Noongar people’s most significant Dreaming creatures, the Waugal, and its connection to Perth’s waterways.
