A small but significant blue tree now stands proud outside Water Corporation’s Manjimup depot to help spread an important message about mental wellbeing.

The recently painted blue tree on Rose Street is one of a handful that has appeared around the south west as part of the ‘Blue Tree Project’.

The grassroots awareness campaign aims to encourage people to start difficult conversations about mental health and open up if they are suffering from depression or anxiety.

It is hoped that through spreading blue paint, it helps spread the message that it is OK to not be OK.

Water Corporation South West Regional Manager John Janssen said Water Corporation was proud to support the program by giving dead trees a ‘blue’ lease on life.

“Mental wellbeing is such an important issue especially in regional communities. It is vital we do what we can to help break down stigmas attached to mental health and let everyone know that it’s OK to not always be OK,” Mr Janssen said.

“It is our hope these striking blue trees act as conversation starters and ultimately help save lives.”

If you are concerned about someone or feel they are at risk of suicide, call triple-0.

Lifeline’s crisis support line is open 24 hours a day on 13 11 14 and Beyond Blue’s 24 hour support service on 1300 224 636.
