  • State Government works with local artists to transform Water Corporation grey electrical cabinets and pump stations around the South West into works of art

  • Western Australian artists enlisted through Splash of Colour Program

There are some colourful new additions in Bunbury, Busselton and Margaret River after the State Government enlisted artists to transform dull grey Water Corporation cabinets into vibrant pieces of art.

Throughout May and June, the Water Corporation's Splash of Colour program turned everyday water and wastewater assets into public art pieces, reflecting the local community's connection to water.

The Water Corporation held workshops with students from Margaret River High School and Busselton Senior High School to incorporate students' connection with water into the artwork.

Splash of Colour began as a trial last year with eight electrical cabinets and pump stations in Australind, Bunbury, Busselton and Dunsborough painted as well as the complete transformation of the Parade Road pump station in Bunbury. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and the program has now been rolled out across Western Australia, with work now underway in the north west of the State.

So far, 34 Water Corporation assets have been turned into community art pieces through the Splash of Colour Program.

Comments attributed to Water Minister Dave Kelly:

"I continue to be blown away by the talent of the local artists who have created beautiful works of art for the whole community to enjoy.

"Keep an eye out when travelling along Ocean Drive and Picton Road in Bunbury, which now also feature beautiful pieces of art courtesy of the most recent round of our Splash of Colour program.

"You can see the result of the work with students from Margaret River High School and Busselton Senior High School along Rendall Close in Margaret River and Simon Street in Busselton.

"Thank you to artists Andrew Frazer, Luke O'Donohoe, Sharon Hinchliffe and Lori Pensini for your talents to bring these otherwise dull cabinets and pump stations to life."
