Wungong Dam upgrade opens nature to more visitors

More Western Australians will have a reason to visit Perth's Hills, with upgraded facilities at Wungong Dam in Bedfordale creating a more welcoming, accessible, and family-friendly experience for visitors to enjoy.

The Water Corporation project has improved access to the dam's recreation area, with the addition of accessible toilet facilities, upgraded barbeque and picnic seating, more shade, and enhanced landscaping.

More parking, new signage, and upgraded paths to improve access to key areas, including the dam lookout, make Wungong Dam the perfect place to unwind and explore nature.

A new Splash of Colour mural has transformed the site's toilet block into a vibrant community artwork, celebrating the area's connection to water and Country.The mural depicts native animals found in bushland at Wungong Dam and its surrounding catchment.

Local Ballardong Noongar artist Bradley Kickett created the mural, engaging with year 6 students at Armadale Primary School to inspire their own drawings.

The upgrade was delivered through Water Corporation's Assets for Liveability Program, which aims to better integrate water assets with the surrounding environment and suburbs to create engaging spaces for everyone to enjoy.

Visitor facilities at Churchman Brook, Canning, and Serpentine Dams and Mundaring Weir were upgraded in a $2.5 million project announced in 2022 by the WA Labor Government.

The Assets for Liveability and Splash of Colour programs support the State Government's Kep Katitjin - Gabi Kaadadjan (Waterwise action plan 3) to establish leading waterwise and liveable communities and ecosystem health for Boorloo (Perth) and Bindjareb (Peel) by 2030.
