Mid West Ports Authority claims WAs top waterwise honour

Mid West Ports Authority awarded Platinum Waterwise Business of the Year 2026
- Geraldton-based port operator wins 2026 Platinum Waterwise Business of the Year
- Dual recipients for the 2026 Platinum Waterwise Building of the Year
- Gold recognition for two residential estates in the Waterwise Development Program
The Mid West Ports Authority has been named Western Australia's 2026 Platinum Waterwise Business of the Year 2026 after slashing its water use by 33 per cent in less than 12 months.
The Geraldton-based port achieved the reduction while increasing export volumes, demonstrating that operational growth and water efficiency can go hand-in-hand.
The local authority overhauled its water management practices, delivering major savings through the introduction of dry-fogging for dust control, improved product handling processes to reduce wash-down requirements, and upgrades to ageing infrastructure to minimise leaks and boost reliability.
The award was announced today at a special Waterwise Recognition Event, held by Water Corporation.
Gold Waterwise Awards were also presented to Perth Zoo, Pan Pacific Perth, Discovery Parks Perth Airport, St Luke's College, and Southern Cross Care.
Since launching in 2007, the Waterwise Business Program has supported high water-use businesses to rethink water management practices, reduce consumption, and lower water bills, helping alleviate demand on WA's water supplies.
In 2024-25 alone, 305 participating businesses saved a combined 8.9 billion litres of water, bringing the total amount saved since the program's inception to 164 billion litres - enough to fill Optus Stadium 164 times.
Joint winners of the Platinum Waterwise Building of the Year were also announced, with 100 St Georges Terrace, managed by CBRE for IFM Investors, and 240 St Georges Terrace, managed by Dexus Funds Management Ltd, sharing top honours.
In the Waterwise Development category, Catalina Regional Council's Catalina Green estate near Mindarie and Montario Quarter by DevelopmentWA were recognised with gold status for incorporating water-saving features into their design.
The Waterwise Business, Waterwise Buildings, and Waterwise Development Programs support the State Government's Kep Katitjin - Gabi Kaadadjan (Waterwise Action Plan 3) to establish leading waterwise communities for Boorloo (Perth) and Bindjareb (Peel) by 2030.
