Goldfields households urged to tap into waterwise offers
Water Corporation customers in six Goldfields communities are being encouraged to take advantage of free waterwise offers as part of a new push to save precious drinking water in the lead up to summer.
Offers are available under Water Corporation’s Waterwise Towns Program, which aims to help regional Western Australians use water more efficiently inside and outside the home.
The program, which is available to Water Corporation customers in 65 communities, saved an impressive 227 million litres of drinking water across regional WA last year – enough to fill 100 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
This year, eligible Water Corporation customers in Kalgoorlie-Boulder can claim a rebate of up to $200 on the cost of using a licensed Waterwise Garden Irrigator to repair leaking reticulation.
Every irrigation service includes a check and adjustment of automatic controller settings, helping to avoid watering outside of rostered days.
Meanwhile, those in Leonora, Laverton, Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Kambalda, Coolgardie and Wiluna can exchange up to two inefficient showerheads for waterwise alternatives under the regional Showerhead Swap program.
Regardless of location, all regional Water Corporation customers can access a rebate of up to $400 to replace an inefficient single-flush toilet with a modern dual flush system, which uses up to 75 per cent less water.
As well as tangible water savings, the Waterwise Towns Program also helps promote the importance of water efficiency in a drying climate, according to Water Corporation Demand Delivery Manager, Damien Postma.
“Given we face a future with less rain and longer, hotter summers, it’s never been more important to make sure we’re living the waterwise message every day,” Mr Postma said.
“That’s why we’re encouraging people to take advantage of this year’s offers. Beyond that, it’s important we continue to treat every drop of water like the precious resource it is.
“This means fixing any leaks inside and outside the home, making sure our gardens are prepared for summer, and making sure we keep showers to four minutes.”
Since being introduced in 2013, the Waterwise Towns Program has saved more than 2 billion litres of drinking water across regional WA – enough to fill Optus Stadium twice over.
Offers are available until 31 May 2026, or until allocated funding is exhausted. For more information or to apply, please visit watercorporation.com.au/waterwiseoffers.
