Waterwise products can help you save water when you shower, wash your clothes, water your garden, wash your hands, the list goes on. Small changes in your home can go a long way to help you save water and make your household more waterwise.
Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) Scheme
The WELS water rating label helps you choose water-efficient household products that save water and money.
The WELS scheme regulates:
- Taps and showers
- Toilets and urinals
- Dishwashers and washing machines
- Flow controllers
Reading the rating label:
- Star rating lets you quickly compare the water efficiency of different products.The more stars, the more water efficient.
- Rate of water consumption such as flow rate, litres per flush or litres per wash lets you estimate how much water the product will use.
- Registration and product details including licence number and registration number and, for washing machines and dishwashers, the model name and cycle used for testing.
When choosing water-efficient fixtures and equipment for your home, Water Corporation recommends selecting products that meet or exceed the minimum WELS rating for their product category below.

Smart Drop Certified products
Water Corporation, with support from Smart Drop Certified, Australia's water efficiency label, has developed an endorsement program for waterwise products separate from the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) Scheme.
This program is unique to WA and provides an opportunity for approved products to feature the Smart Drop logo on their packaging, making it easy for you to identify water efficient products for your home and garden.
When shopping for waterwise products, keep an eye out for the Smart Drop logo. You can also browse endorsed products on the Smart Drop Certified website.
