Our recruitment process

While our process may vary based on role requirements, it generally follows the steps outlined.

We want to ensure you’re coming into an environment you’re comfortable with and one you can thrive in.

Online application

You’ll need to create a profile in our online jobs portal to apply for a role with us. Upload your resume and complete the required fields.

If you already have a profile, you can log in to apply for new roles or complete an outstanding application. You’ll receive a confirmation email once you have applied for a role. You can check the status of your application at any time by logging into your online profile.

Phone discussion

Our Careers Team will review your resume to determine your suitability for the role. If you’re successful in progressing to the next stage, we’ll give you a call to learn more about you.

Questions we may ask include: What attracted you to the position? What matters to you? What salary package are you after?

For larger recruitment drives such as Graduate, Apprenticeship, and Contact Centre roles:
At this stage, we'll also invite you to complete a 15-minute online cognitive test. This involves Abstract, Numerical, and Verbal reasoning tasks and problem-solving exercises.

This is also a great opportunity for you to find out about the role, demonstrate your experience and understand more about Water Corporation and our competitive benefits.

Interview

The hiring manager will create a shortlist of candidates to contact for an interview. The interview is an opportunity for you to meet with the hiring manager and share how you are a good fit for the role. It’s also an opportunity for you to find out more details about the role and the team you would be working with.

Interviews take place at one of our offices or over a video call. We’ll let you know the next steps along with an approximate timeframe. We may request a second interview to allow other stakeholders to meet with you.

For larger recruitment drives such as Graduate, Apprenticeship, and Contact Centre roles:
You will need to complete a video interview in your own time. This involves filming short video replies for our hiring team to review. The next step is to take part in group activities at an Assessment Centre.

An Assessment Centre is your opportunity to demonstrate your skills as you participate and solve tasks in a group setting. Hiring managers will be observing problem-solving, teamwork, communications, accountability and other interpersonal skills. During the Assessment Centre, you can also learn more about the role and meet some of the team you may be working with.

Pre-employment checks

While pre-employment checks may differ from role to role, they usually include:

  • two reference checks from previous managers/employers
  • drug and alcohol screening
  • police clearance
  • Right to work check
  • qualification, trade or licence check

We’ll organise and pay for these checks for you. All field-based positions will also require a medical and functional assessment.

Formal offer

If you’re selected as the best candidate for the role, we’ll email you a formal offer. Once you agree to and sign off on this formal offer, we'll send you a link to complete your onboarding. You’ll need to complete this before your commencement date. We look forward to welcoming you to the team!

If you aren’t successful in progressing to the next stage at any point, we'll let you know. We’re members of the Circle Back Initiative. It means we’re committed to responding to every job applicant.
