We respect that caring for Country is essential to maintain cultural connection for your continual cultural health and wellbeing. At Water Corporation you can live, work, and raise your family on Country without compromising your career pathways or cultural obligations.
We're striving to build a culturally safe environment that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. The opportunities
We're focused on increasing opportunities for Aboriginal candidates and employees across all areas. From leadership roles to trainees, project management to water operators, we hope you can find a role that you can thrive in.
By having roles that are identified as Section 50 (d) or Section 51, we're committed to ensuring our workforce better meets the differing needs of our customers, reflects the diversity within the communities we serve and improve equal opportunity outcomes for our employees.
For us, it's important our people represent the communities in which we live and work. This includes building a culture where everyone appreciates the importance of Indigenous knowledge and skill sets that comes from being the world's oldest living culture.
Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) sets out our actions to build strong, respectful and trusting relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the communities we operate in.
Having a culturally intelligent and safe workplace matters to us. We have a targeted internal strategy called Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. It outlines our commitment to ensuring Aboriginal culture directly informs our decision making and ways of working, while also acknowledging and healing from the past.
This co-designed and Aboriginal-led internal strategy will promote and support self-determination principles, social inclusion, cultural security and economic participation. It’s believed to be among the first of its kind in WA.
Working with community
We've built respectful relationships with leading Aboriginal community organisations that are making a difference in their communities to through education, training and employment. They include:
We're committed to having employees who are culturally aware and understand that Aboriginal culture is diverse across the state where we work.
Cultural awareness helps us heighten our self-reflection, break down cultural barriers, build bridges to learn how to make room, appreciate the strength of the diversity and incorporate these important perspectives to the world around us.
Cultural awareness training
Our employees complete online cultural awareness training on commencement. They are then encouraged to participate in our full day training offered to employees.
Celebrating Aboriginal culture
We celebrate Aboriginal culture with a week of activities during national Reconciliation Week and a week of celebration during NAIDOC. All employees are encouraged to participate and Aboriginal employees can take cultural leave to attend events.
